Facebook to Blame?: Officials of GunungKidul, Indonesia think that Facebook is to blame for the rise in teen pregnancies and underage marriages in the area. Indonesia with its 38.9 million Facebook users is the second largest Facebook market after the U.S., and local officials believe that it is the rise of the social network that is the root of the problem. Facebook has been making it easier for young people to communicate and connect and, as officials are concerned, to frolic. I don’t know how much you can really pin on Facebook this time. Sure, Facebook makes it easier for young people to communicate with each other, but it doesn’t explicitly encourage sexual encounters between youngsters anymore than mobile phones, the Internet in general, pop culture or hormones do. FB Identity Theft: It is accepted, even enforced, within some circles, especially those of high school or college age, that a Facebook page left open and unattended is fair game for some “editing” (much like the age old tradition of sharpie facial doodling on “sleepyheads”). But if you are a California resident, you may want to think twice before high-jacking someone’s FB for a laugh, because a recent ruling in California made this punishable as identity theft.
